Attainability[]
It can be selected at age 5 alongside the saddle, slingshot and the appletor, whereas its golden version can be obtained at age 25.
It is used to catch bugs that appear throughout the different seasons and best paired with the boostpad, marlou hat, and hammer.
The damage it takes is about 10 damage on players and animal but the bosses is about 9 damage per hit.
Usage[]
When used, the net swings directly in front of the player, if the net (not the rod) collides with an insect, the insect will be added to your Inventory. The insects would be useful in potion making, having tactics to distract your enemies, using the black beetle to actually make your dagger even more stronger, and etc. The Golden Bug net has a bigger net to making catching them easier. Holding a Bug net slows down the tamer.
Strategies[]
One of many possible strategies is to either place down a launchpad in front of an insect and then launching toward the insect and clicking or push an insect in front of a launchpad to launch toward it. Another way is to corner insects against obstacles like trees and logs, especially when intersecting with a world border. This strategy works the best with bigger insects like the great snail. A third strategy is to corner the insect against a corner or side of the world. Another similar strategy is to use hammer, because its base speed is faster than bugs, then get very close as if to kill it, then switch to bug net quickly and catch the bug. It's best to chase the bug this way along one of the world borders, as then you can chase the bug as straight as possible, which is ideal, rather than if you chased it in the middle of the map. This takes more time, but is usually more effective against the smaller and faster insects. A fifth strategy is to first tame a toad, level it up to boss, get the saddle, and use the tongue lash ability, which catches insects. (Beware: Toads are hard to tame)
Another strategy that may be more helpful for mobile and trackpad players is to first select the net, then enable autoclick (press e on computers) and then get out your boostpad. Then slowly come towards the insect and quickly place the boostpad down towards the insect and then rush forward.
Trivia[]
Before it was patched, there was a bug that would still give the the insect catch when you shot it with a ranged weapon or killed it with a pet/buildings, but switched to holding the bug net when the bug dies.
